Pflueger Purist Spinning Reel
I’m super happy with this reel. Holding it feels awesome. I’ve tried pricier reels before, but this one performs just as well, if not better. Flipping the bail on the handle is a breeze—it falls forward with hardly any effort. And having a smaller spool is really cool. There are some things that make it the best. Let’s check them out.
Line capacity
Even thicker lines like a 10 lb test often need more than 100 yards on many reels nowadays. But this reel, even with a 6 lb test line, has 80 yards. Plus, gripping the handle with your thumb feels really comfortable.
Smooth & Comfortable
I enjoy using this reel because it’s smooth and comfy. The descriptions are detailed, thorough, and accurate. The ultralight seems to be a good-quality product, especially considering its cost. However, I still prefer the Bass Pro Shop reel because it’s cheaper and offers a similar level of quality. No regrets here.
Exceptional Casting
It’s sturdy, lightweight, and robust – exactly what I anticipated. The casting is superb, and I genuinely appreciate it.
This Plueger reel is fantastic, though I’m not sure why it’s $20 more than the President, which is also excellent. Still, I’m more than happy with what I paid for it.
I liked it so much that I also bought the 1335x. When it comes to Plueger, there’s no doubt—it’s better than other popular brands. This five-star reel made me switch after catching over 500 crappies and smallmouth bass without any issues.

Consider checking out the Okuma Inspira, available at a similar price. Pairing it with a 7′ St Croix Mojo Inshore rod, like the Okuma Inspira ISX-30B, creates a perfect match, as both are lightweight, bordering on ultra-lightweight.
Okuma Inspiras lack sealed drag systems, but the model 30s are notably lighter, weighing 7.4oz, which is 13% lighter than Okuma Inspiras. In contrast, the Purist model 30 weighs 8.5 ounces.
The Pflueger Supreme XT is lighter than the Pflueger Pursuit and shares the same sealed drag system as the Pflueger Supreme XT. Both feature a magnesium body and rotor.
Despite its ultralight weight of just 6.8 ounces, the model 30 reel offers impressive performance.
Frequently Asked Question
Q. Is it ultralight?
The 1335 model has a line capacity up to medium-heavy, which makes it too large to be considered ultralight. Pflueger reels in the 1325 or 1330 size range would be more appropriate. Specifically, the 1330 is roughly equivalent to a Shimano 2500-size, while the 1335 has a line capacity similar to a Shimano 3000-size.
Shimano reels are physically larger than their 1330 counterparts, while the Shimano 2500 and 3000 differ primarily in their spool size, with the 3000 offering more line capacity.
Q. What type of fishing is the Purist Spinning Reel best suited for?
The Purist Spinning Reel is versatile and can be used for various fishing styles, including freshwater and light inshore saltwater fishing. Its design makes it suitable for targeting a range of species.

Yes, the Pflueger Purist Spinning Reel typically comes equipped with an instant anti-reverse bearing. This feature prevents backward reel movement, providing solid hook sets.
Q. What is the Pflueger Purist Spinning Reel known for?
The Pflueger Purist Spinning Reel is renowned for its lightweight design, smooth drag system, and overall high-quality construction. It is often favored by anglers for its performance and durability.
